Auditions
Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra holds in person auditions in late summer for the Philharmonia (previously Symphonic) and Chamber Orchestra. For mid-season auditions, please contact Ryan Farris at [email protected]
Placement in the Debut Orchestra is by teacher recommendation and does not require an audition; for more information please contact Justine Jeanotte at [email protected].
Audition requirements for all students auditioning for Philharmonia or Chamber:
• Please prepare a solo piece (ideally 3-5 minutes) showcasing your musical and technical capabilities.
• You will be asked to sight-read a short excerpt of music. Focus on rhythm, accurate note-reading, and articulation.
• For Philharmonia: Please prepare your part to movement 1 'Basse-Dance' from Warlock's Capriol Suite.
MM quarter note = 168
• For Chamber: Please prepare your part to movement 4 'Bransles' from Warlock's Capriol Suite.
MM half note = 148
All violinists auditioning for Philharmonia and Chamber are highly encouraged to audition on viola as well. Anyone wishing to do this should prepare the above requirements on violin plus the relevant viola part from Capriol.
