Senior Soloist
The Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra will offer to all senior students the opportunity to perform a solo with the Chamber Orchestra at the discretion of the Orchestra Director after a reasonable application process.
Students interested in a senior solo should perform their solo for the Director in full at the time of audition. All solo applications will be recorded and comments noted should a review by the board be required.
Students hoping to submit a new composition should present their work at their audition in the form of a printed copy of the score and parts along with an email containing an audio recording generated by the notation software of their choice and an XML file of the composition.
No senior solo is to exceed 10 minutes in duration without board approval, and preference should be given by senior soloists to pieces under 7 minutes in duration when selecting a senior solo.
Selected Senior Soloists will perform with the Chamber Orchestra, and should anticipate orchestration no larger than 8 violins, 4 violas, 3 cellos, and 1 bass. More musicians may be added if enrollment stipulates a larger capacity.
Senior soloists may request at the time of their audition an arrangement of the accompaniment for string orchestra to be made by the Director or their surrogate, but is subject to the approval of the Director.
